Never Stop Stumping, Mr. President — You Belong Out There

Teddy Roosevelt said the presidency is a bully pulpit. George W. Bush frequently went out into the country to sell his programs and policies — whether tax cuts or the Iraq War — and often by inferring or stating that “Washington doesn’t get it.”

Anyone who suggests that what President Obama is doing now, visiting and holding town meetings in economically hard-hit communities to increase public pressure for passage of the stimulus package, is either unusual or wrong and is using a double standard — or ignoring history–or both.
